    Dear Mr. Colfer,

I’m so glad to hear about the Artemis fowl movie and the book and I can’t wait to read it and see the movie hopefully it’ll do the book justice because it was amazing. Hopefully I’ll get to read Airman and HalfMoon Investagations(sorry if I spelled that wrong) My library systems takes too long to get there books but I’m hoping and praying. But it’s fantastic to hear about Artemis Fowl so looking forward to it.

    Your fan,

    Bree

Oh!!! Wow! I can’t wait for Artemis Fowl 6! Will you be able to hint on the full name of the book any time soon? And what do you mean IF we will want another Artemis book? If you want to write another Artemis you can bet we’ll be itching to read it!

Great slogan for Airman by the way! I love it! “The only way out is up!” Awsome! Can’t wait to read that one too!

    Untill next time!

    Woohoo! First comment!

Wow! The Airman cover looks fantastic! Can’t wait for it to come out. I’m hugely looking forward to the next Artemis too, so get writing!

As for guitar, when I was learning, I found just holding the chords down for ages helped. It hurts like hell, but after a while your fingers get more used to being in position like that, which makes it easier to move them into the right position quickly.

    Good luck Eoin!

Man, I am so excited about your books, Mr. Colfer. You’re a wonderful writer and I feel bad for people who haven’t seen you, you’re a really great and entertaining speaker and I’m sure you’ll show everyone up at the Bath festival. I saw you in Naperville last year, drove two hours and it was worth it.

I really cannot wait for news on everything, the books especially.

    Hello Mr. Colfer!

Thanks so much for another videoblog! :D

I bet all of us were pleased to hear that you’re halfway done with Artemis 6 - amazing! We look forward to it very much!

Oh noes possible CGI for the movie! *tear* It’d be so much better with real actors though… if they fit the part, that is. I’ll keep for fingers crossed for no CGI. :D

Only one apperance this year… Aw. :( I wish I could go to the event you mentioned - those authors sound amazing.

Might make the trip to Bath to see you and a few others. I love your Artemis Fowl books, but I dont know if I like The Supernaturalist more. I hope there is a sequal to that somewhere in the future. The only negative thing I can say is that I feel a little out of place at my local bookstore because they always put you in the childrens section and im 20 years old :o but hey, its well worth the embarassment.

Great vlog. The Airman cover looks GREAT. As is hearing about the next Artemis Fowl book.

Have you read the last HP book yet? Curious to hear your thoughts on it…

    Mr. Colfer,
OMG!!! That is such a cool cover!! I’m glad to hear about the next AF book!! Have you been on FanFiction.Net? You have alot of fans up there. I can’t wait to get the graphic novel!!! It will give me something to do during class. :) Keep on writing!!!!

    Dear Mr. Colfer

First of all I find amazing that you find the time to record and post the video blogs. Also that you find the time to read and try to respond to the comments that all of us post up on the site. But anyway, I was soooo excited to hear about an Artemis movie, let me tell you that ever since my dad and I read the fist book couple of years ago we both wanted a movie to come out because it would be a really good movie, and most likely a hit. Also I can’t wait for Airman to come out, the cover looks amazing, and i’m sure it will be a great book. Love ALL your books, well the ones I’ve read but they’re almost all of them. The graphic novel seems like such a great idea, i’m sure it will be grat as well.

    Lots of love, Stefie

i’m pysched to hear that you’re starting to work on the new artemis book and i’m sure the movie is going to be awesome. i really hope you continue the series and don’t let it end with the sixth book.

i’m also looking foward to getting airman in january (seems to collide with my birthday, which is great! i’m gonna drop my parents some hints when it starts getting close *wink wink*) and i love the cover, very nice.

even though you’re too busy to reply to fan mail, at least you try and you’re putting an effort into replying. which is great; i should write you a letter some time… even though it would take a while for you to reply, but it would probably take me a while to write it also. writing is so old school haha, just kidding. i’m more of a keyboard person, easier to erase and fix.

i totally wish i could go to the festival, but i can’t so i hope you’ll come for an appearance in the united states soon. i’d be there in a second, no lie.

    good lucky & good job

oh god! a 6th artemis fowl book!!!! i am SOOO exited!!! holly’s my personal favorite. i like her attitude toward artemis. if i was graced to be in the movies i would want to be her. but what i REALLY can’t wait for is to find out who the twins are. their names, sex, age, if they’re smart or not. i mean the list goes on and on!! anyway, i like this v-blog the best, and i like your cover for [AIRMAN]. just as a thought, since people suggest books to you, have you ever read ender’s game? it’s a GREAT book, right down to the very last page. oh, i also LOVE what you’ve done to the site. it’s much better from what it was, though you’ve always had cool sites!

    well, C ya!

P.S. sorry if this seems foward and dork-ey. i was borded and felt like posting something long and possible ridiclus. :-D

i just got finished reading the lost colony and it is officially my favorite book of all time! i don’t know how in world you come up with the artemis stories but i’m glad you do!!! i’m so excited for the sixth book and the MOVIE!!!! while i was reading AF i kept thinking how amazing the movie would be if they made one! i hope it is as good as the book. i dont want to spoil the book for others so i’ll just say that the part in the lost colony where “something happens to holly that doesnt really happen” was so amazing i almost cried. i cannot wait for the next book and i really hope you keep writing more. any idea as to when the 6th book will be released?

    Dear Eoin,
bet I’m your oldest fan. (52 and not counting). Like your other readers I am a massive fan. Think I was destined to read Artimis. My eye was drawn to the 1st book in the library, didn’t browse it or anything, just picked it up, took it home and WOW! I was blown away by it, gripped, couldn’t (and didn’t want to) put it down. Your type of humour is soooo up my street! I am now the proud owner of all 5 volumes and eagerly awaiting the 6th, though with some sadness since you hint it is your last in the Artimis Fowl series. I love your other books too. Not exagerating when I tell you you are my favourite author - ever.
My only grumble is I cannot access your video blogs. As soon as I click on play a black box comes up - and then nothing, sigh. Keep up the brilliant writing, and well done on having such a supportive family: who encouraged you to share your uniquely wonderful the talent with the rest of us.
    Best wishes, Trish.

  16. 16 Trish.

    Dear Eoin,
I meant to add that as I read my first Artimis I thought what a wonderfully brilliant film it would make. I nearly fell of my chair when I discovered there will indeed be a film. I’d have performed backflips had my back allowed it; but since it can’t I settled for punching the air and grinning with delight. I can’t wait for the film: if its as good as the books then the fans are in for a huge treat.
Hubby and I will be the first in the cue.
    Congratulations and thanks, Trish.

    Dear Mr Colfer,
I understand you are a mega buisy man, but was wondering if you lecture on authorship, especially for children’s lit. I am an English student at Exeter University and a great fan of your incredible works. I was wondering if you would come and give us a lecture, especially since children’s lit. is one of the third year modules I am taking. You would be made most welcome and we all would greatly appreciate it.

    Best wishes,
    Zircon

    Dear Mr. Colfer,
I’m possibly on the other side of the world and I still love your books! Book 5 was awesome! I come all the way from the Philippines and your stories are way better in the field of magic! I call your book-type, “pseuodo-sci-fantasy”. Can’t wait for book 6! Looking forward to more time-travel and Minerva sightings. I’ve got most of your books anyway! I had to ask my cousins from the US to drop by and bring book 5 along with them! I’m that of a fanatic! (And I’ll say it again) Can’t wait for the surprise that is Book six!!!

    Hope you won’t stop there!

    I know Artemis won’t!

    Dear E. Colfer,

Just read your August 7th V4 blog. Great stuff… loved to hear about the progress on book 6, though you shouldn’t kid yourself about us wanting more. Anyway so glad you have time to keep your site up to date… keeps us looking forward to more adventures with our favorite boy genius. Just wanted to say keep up the great writing and definitly don’t let it end at 6. Keep the magic going…and tell Arty boy I said hello.

    Dear Mr. Colfer,

Before today I had never visited your website, I think it’s brilliant. Very nicely put together.
I admire you very much as a writer and have enjoyed all your books thus far. You are actually right up there near the top on my list of favorites with Orson Scott Card, J.K. Rowling, and Neil Gaiman. (It is a very extensive list, so much so that I don’t believe I’ve ever had the time and initiative to put it all together….well,at least not the initiative anyways)
I am myself an aspiring author, writing various random beginnings on my own and currently working on what will probably turn into a novelette with my dad.
At the moment I am typing a riduclously long comment for the purpose of avoiding writing a paper that was assigned as summer homework a little longer. I can’t concentrate. Not on this comment, not on the paper. Apparently I am stuck, and what I wouldn’t do for Artemis Fowl-esque intellect right now.
Oh, well. I shall leave you be now.

Good luck with your writing. At least you don’t have to turn it in to a grouchy History teacher, though if I’m honest I don’t know anything about your editor….But I have to think my teacher is meaner so I’ll finish the paper…..

Anyways, much love sent here and sorry for the LONG comment. I always end up doing that….

    Debbie

You give us happiness and smiles. I want you take a rest 35 secondes during you read this mail, it’s the only poor thing I’m able to offer to you, and nothing to compare about what I want really give to you for share the happiness and the smiles I receive by your work. I’m so sorry to not speak english, but I’m shure exist ways in the sky who transport the prayers, like the tales of an angel or an elf.
Nothing it’s impossible for love who bless your books.
    Again, thank you,

    Alexandre, an elf

  23. 23 Stephanie Gilchrist

    Dear Mr. Colfer,

I wanted to throw in my two {cents} ;) about your latest blog and wish to say that I think you should keep writing Artemis Fowl books. Definitely you should go past 7 at least. I always say 8 is a magical number. Ha ha. Mainly because that is my favorite number and if you turn it side ways, it means Infinity, which is, of couse, forever. I will pay good money for any future Artemis Fowl books when they come out, to that I promise. As to the amount of years between the 6th and any following books, I am quite content with that because I am used to it with the Harry Potter books.

Also, I wanted to say Hurah for Hollywood making Artemis Folw a movie. I will definitely be seeing it when it comes to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania>>United States (of course). I am eager to see what actor can play Artemis and match my imaginations. For example, In The LOTR and Harry Potter (at least the first HP movie) movies, the characters on screen matched my imagination so well, I was completely blown out of the water. I had not, before then, experienced a movie matching my imagination. I’m not sure if that is the skill of the director, or the skill of the writer. Whichever, I am fully anticipating the release of the 1st Artemis Fowl movie and the 6th Artemis Fowl book.

I actually just recently became enthralled by you Artemis Fowl series. This is the funny thing; I was strolling through Borders in the middle of July, eagarly anticipating the last Harry Potter book (and NO, I do not compare your writings to J.K.Rowlings because you are both in your own league.) when I saw ‘Artemis Fowl:The Lost Colony’ on sale. The cover grabbed me and so I read the back cover and it sounded interesting enough, so I bought it along with several other books meant to nurish my need to read. I read one book before yours, that which I cannot remember at the moment, though if I go up into my room and glance at my book shelf, I’d remember. Anyway, I read your book second and was so enveloped by the (5th) book, that when I bought Harry Potter 7 the day it came out, I was still reading Artemis Fowl:The Lost Colony and I didnt read Harry Potter till I finished three days after HP7 came out. Doesn’t sound like much, but in my mind, that is a big complement to you and your writing, seeing as how I’ve been a devoted HP fan since I was 12, and I am 20 now, Annnnddddd because I, being so devoted to books in general, did not bother to find out whether or not the Artemis Fowl book was of a series or not. Here is the funny part: I did not realize the Artemis Fowl book I had was the 5th book till I finished it.

So, after I read the last Harry Potter book, The two out of three books of The Inheritance Trilogy (Eragon) (which I devoured) and worked 30 hours a week and went camping for 4 days in between, I researched your books and went to Borders, and bought the First Artemis Fowl book. I ate it up of course, as your writing style in the 5th book intrigued me and made me laugh quite often.

Only last week did I go online and buy Artemis Fowl 2, 3, and 4 through Borders.com. So, now here I am on the very last day of August at 11:11am (the magic moment) having just finished Artemis Fowl: The Eternity Code and salivating at the thought that, perhaps, Artemis Fowl: Opal Decent will arrive in the mail today. You have made a fan out of me.
I will, however, give your other writings a look over, especially Airman, which sounds good by your description.

I am very happy to hear the You are writing a 6th Artemis Fowl book and the reason this makes me happy is that, You might release at some point in 2008, or as Wikipedia says(but you can never really trust that site, seeing as how any old person can edit the information) the 6th Artemis Fowl book, that would be just Perfect for me because The Final book of the Inheritance Trilogy is Rumored to be published in summer 08, and with Artemis Fowl possibly coming out around the same time, I will be a happy little sprite with much to read. And Reading is my Haven.

Have a good Labor day Weekend, Mr. Eoin Colfer….oops…I guess that’s an American holiday only, but I think every country should celebrate a Labor Day because doesn’t everybody do some kind of labor for a living?? Even writing is a labor. Labor day originated from a desire by the Central Labor Union to create a day off for the “working man”. So why not celebrate it, for the working man???

Have a good weekend, whatever you celebrate. And I hope you don’t come out of this Loooooooooooooooong comment with a headache. Byee

    Dear Mr. Colfer,

I just finished reading The Lost Colony this morning! It was positively mind boggling! In a good way. I got it at my library yesterday and I couldn’t put it down. Time is a crazy thing. It really got me thinking. Finally, Artemis gets to have his own love story with someone who lives up to his superior intellect! Anyway, you finished it with such a cliff hanger that I needed conformation that there would be a sixth book. I’m so glad that there’s going to be! I’m too excited. I can’t believe that there is going to be a movie as well! I hope that it lives up to your work. I’ve kind of lost faith that anyone can make movies as great as the book.

I have only recently become an Artemis Fowl fan. Well, I’ve only recently become an Artemis Fowl fan AGAIN. I read the 1st book when I was 10 or 11 (14 now), and I loved it. I don’t think that I really had the mental capacity to fully comprehend all of it. I stopped there and got swept up in all of the Harry Potter hype. I saw The Arctic Incident in my school library last September. I remembered how much I loved the first one and read it for about a half hour. I was totally hooked after that.

My favorite of all the books was The Eternity Code. It was so gripping and it gave off that Mission Impossible vibe with all of the breaking and entering! Also with him getting his memory erased at the end made me wonder “How in the world he is going to get out it this time???”, but he’s Artemis Fowl. Of course he’ll find a way out.

What do you mean by “IF” we want you to write more books??? OF COURSE WE WANT YOU TO WRITE MORE BOOKS!!! I don’t mind in the slightest that there will be a long break between the books. It’s more dramatic anyways, keeping us fans to come up with our own theories and ideas. We’ll be itching to read it, no matter when it comes out! It would be awesome if you would give conformation that IS going to be a seventh book, to keep us fans from going crazy. ^_^

Looking forward to reading more about Artemis, Minerva, Butler, Holly, Foaly, Mulch, and these mysterious Twins I just read about…

    Your loyal Mud Man fan,

    Katelyn

P.S. The Airman cover looks wicked. Now I’ll know what to look for when it comes out!!!!!
P.P.S. Just thought I’d let you know, my mom was born in Ireland and we visit my Grandparents every summer! I’m Irish and proud of it!

  25. 25 Blayne

It’s amazing how you try to answer all of your fan mail. That is really respectable. The cover for Airman looks great and i can’t wait to read it as i have enjoyed every book you have recently made (ie. Artemis, The Wish List, The Supernaturalist, Half-Moon Investigations) By that cover it looks like a darker book then previous installments you have published.

If anything please please have a huge say in the movie. I know that after you sell the rights you don’t really have a choice but i hope you do, if this turns out like Eragon i’m going to be truely upset. Good luck to you with Airman.

  26. 26 maham

hey, hi! i love all your books, and you are my all time favorite author, now when my english teacher asks me, ” whats your favorite book and author?’ i DONT say ” umm…. uh.. well i dont know…..” i now say..” well, yah,.. the artemis fowl series and Eion Colfer!” i seriously keep writing, now every now an then ( everyday to be persise) i go on artemis fowl fan fiction to keep myself content before the sixth book comes out! and PLZ ALWAYS keep writing the series.. we’ll always love it!

  27. 27 Helen

    Mr. Colfer,

I just wanted to say that I’ve loved the Artemis Fowl series since I was in seventh grade (I’m in 12th grade now). The characters are so brilliant (yes, even Butler), their conversations so witty, and the plot so clever. Each time before I begin writing my novel, I have to re-read sections from my favorite books (the Opal Deception and Eternity Code) for inspiration. Your books are amazing!

Frankly, I’m horrified that there’s going to be an Artemis Fowl movie. Making good books into movies is becoming such a popular trend, but few films are actually done well and satisfy the readers. Here I allude to the awful Eragon and the Alex Rider films, and don’t even get me started on Harry Potter. If there is going to be a A.F. movie, I do hope you can supervise the writing of the script and maintain some control of the story. It’d be so disappointing if those movie-people massacre my beloved Artemis!

On the whole, thank you for giving me so many hours of enjoyment and literary inspiration!
    Helen Y.

  28. 28 D. Shapiro

I am in my 30’s and have listeed to your books on CD on the way to the office. THey are fantastic and I love every word. The creatism and imagination of the Ferrie People is briliant. I go thorugh many audio CD’s and your series is one of the best I have listened to. Keep them coming..

    Thank you for the books

  29. 29 Richard

I love the Artemis Fowl boooks so much, Im going to get the other books to go read. I just flew through the Artemis Fowl books, like 2 weeks for every one… 1-5, I wanted to know when the 6th is comin out.

  30. 30 Thomas Zies

Dear Mr. Colfer Ilive in America and I absolutely love the books you write, Dont stop writing these books they are some of my favorites. I can’t wait untill the sixth book comes out. I have all the Artemis Fowl books so far at least six times (not including the times I read them upside-down)
    P.S.
    The cover looks great.

  31. 31 Anna

Dear Mr. Colfer (and yes, I have learned to pronounce your name correctly),
My friend and I are always looking for a book by you that we have not come across before, and whenever we find on we jump up and down screaming, read it in a couple of hours, and rush it to the other person. Once both people have read the book we rant endlessly about how amazing it was, and then look for the next book (all the while looking out for more books)
Artemis Fowl is my favorite book series (and, considering how obsessed I am with books, that is quite the accomplishment). I have read and re-read all the books countless times, have actual pages memorized, and can remember the page numbers key-quotes (and just random details) off the top of my head.
Needless to say, I fell out of my chair when I learned that this might be the last book.
Well, I trust your judgement as an author. Just keep writing! All your books are amazing!
