The classic Douglas Adams book series will now have a sixth installment courtesy of Eoin Colfer. Listen to Eoin as he speaks about this amazing news – click on the video below.
…WOW! I mean just WOW! This is big news, congratulations! I wish you much luck. I’m a huge fan of both the Hitchhikers series and the Artemis Fowl series so this combo is just monumental for me.
This really is intriguing! Eoin Colfer has been my idol for several years, and “The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” is one of the funniest book series there is.
And now a combination of the two…?!
Don’t Panic! Who pressed the Improbability Drive button?
Such brilliant improbable news: Douglas’ work to continue. Good luck with the project. Hopefully we will all get more radio episodes too!
Eoin, that is so amazing….
I am so chuffed for you, however, you’ll have to re-immerse yourself in Adams and stay true to his legacy (no problem for you). Pints on me next time I’m in Wexford.
Excellent news! This time it’s right, it will work and no one will have to get nailed to anything [as Douglas said]. It’s wonderful to hear that Eoin Colfer will add another volume to this series. Mostly Harmless was such a depressing and tragic way to sign off, so the chance to bring the characters back to life and look at the preconceptions of life from an unusual angle again, with originality and humour, is very, very, welcome. Hey! Eoin! Get in touch if you want to fact-check anything about the Hitch-Hikers universe. If I don’t know, someone else in the Hitchhiker’s Guide Appreciation Society will. Good luck and I wish you a fantastic success.
Please don’t. The writing style of Adams cannot be emulated. You are a fine writer in your own right, but please don’t engage in what is, basically, fan-fiction.
I read an article today in which the writer of Brokeback Mountain said that her biggest annoyance is that people keep sending her fan-fiction in which they try to “fix” her story. Don’t be like them. The series might not have ended exactly like you wanted to, I wasn’t to happy about it either, but it ended the way it did, and you cannot fix it.
I admit I’ve never read your work, but I’m sure you’re a fine writer. I suppose I would trust Ms. Belson’s judgement, but I just don’t see how Hitchhiker’s can be turned into a franchise of books a la Star Wars.
I bet it will be a great book, and I don’t think it will “ruin” anything, and I’m sure I’ll read it. It just makes me nervous. Please make Douglas and his memory proud; I won’t criticize you until I’ve read it.
Dear Mr. Eoin Colfer: Douglas Adams was a genius but he was also a one-trick-ponny, his genius seems to have been limited to writing the first radio script without which there would be series. DNA sequels are not hard to replicate or improve upon because they sucked so badly even a child can do it. I would concentrate on the first book and continune the story line right after the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, more or less…if you catch my drift. Thanks.
Dear Mr Colfer,
First of all congratulations – you’ve been given an honour many of us fans undoubtedly are fabulously jealous of. I wish you the best of luck because as much as it saddens us that we can’t have the sixth book Douglas may have written I think it’s a good thing that we agree that the book should be written, and it will be a great way to continue honouring the memory of a man so many of us will be in awe of until the Vogons come.
So good luck because i hope it gets the success both of you deserve from it, and thank you so much for it, either way.
P.S. I’m sure i really shouldn’t ask, but I don’t think i can hold it – is Fenchurch coming back??

Lookin’ forward to autumn 2009.
Wow! Incredibly cool!

Please publish AAT late; miss a few deadlines along the way too. I think Douglas Adams would like that.
