And another thing..........OMG how good is that, i was left shocked by the earth being destroyed AGAIN!!!! at the end of mostly harmless, however the revival was fab. Not having Douglas Adams write the 6th book i was worried it would loose its appeal....oh how wrong was I, Eoin used Douglas Adams principles and then added those extra little touches. Douglas Adams would be very proud....... only question is, will there be a 7th book, and what the hell happened to fenchurch????

The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide was lent to me by a friend not to long ago. It was lent the week for school exams, and during a hecktic time involving extra-curriculars. Even so, I had it finished in 8 days. It changed my life. I now say random things or ideas from it to my friends, prompting strange looks, long descriptions and explainations, and even stranger looks. My sense of humor has broadend, and I notice myself occasionally contradicting what I think due to The Hickhiker's Guide series. Either way, I really enjoyed the books. I also really enjoyed the Artemis Fowl series and The Supernaturalist. Your writing style is truly amazing Mr. Colfer, and I know that no matter what you write, the next instalment in The Hichhiker's Guide will be fabulous. Have fun writing the book, and I can't wait to read it.

When I first heard that they were having someone write a sixth Hitchhiker, I cried "BLASPHEMY!", but then I heard that it was Eoin Colfer doing it, and I was like, "Well, that's all right then." I got into the Hitchhiker trilogy shortly after seeing an ad for the movie (you know, the one with Louie Armstrong singing then the earth blowing up) and it caught my attention. I promptly looked for anything I could find about this Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy thing, and soon found the first two books in my school library. Unfortunately, I had to wait until I found an Ultimate Hitchhikers to read the others, except for Mostly Harmless, because my older sister stole it and has yet to give it back (it's now been 3 years since she "borrowed" it, so I'm unlikely to get it back in time for And Another Thing...). Anyways, just commenting to say that I think Hitchhiker did change my life, adding much needed sophistication to my sense of humor and making it impossible for me to see the number 42 without thinking that I know the answer. Plus, whenever I see 42 anywhere I realize that I am not alone; that there are others who have appreciated the works of a great man.

Good luck Mr. Colfer, I'm sure you'll do the trilogy justice.

I remember that many years ago, as a poverty stricken undergraduate I stole the newly published "So long and thanks for all the fish" from a bookshop in Melbourne because I just couldn't wait to read it. I've since felt so bad about my criminal behaviour that I've bought about a hundred books there to try and make amends for my wayward youth.

Anyway, on reading it I fell deeply and enduringly in love with Fenchurch. Please bring her back so our romance can continue. :)

Thanks, Dave.

When I was 12 I loved the original Hitchhiker's guide. Perhaps too much. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe was pure genius and I am certain I quoted it far more than could ever have been appropriate.

I even loved "Life the Universe and Everything", but in truth, I made myself love it. The feeling wore off as I read "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish," which I dearly, sorely wanted to enjoy, but which did nothing for me.

At the time I thought I had outgrown the books, but going back to read the first two I found them to still be a joy.

I read "Mostly Harmless" and it too was a pale shadow of it's predecessors. There was less fun, fewer ideas and, well, less of everything.

It's hard, when an author does such a beautiful job implying this enormous, mad, rich universe, to have to then fill it up with things of quality.

Can you do you it? I don't see how. I'm not outraged, but I'm doubtful because this vehicle was already driven into the ground.

Eoin; first, thanks so much for all of your great writing!

Now...
I'll admit, as much as I love your books, I'm still a bit hesitant to accept a new "Guide". Of course, if anyone had to do it, I'd want it to be you!
Anyway, I look forward to reading it, I'm sure you won't let us down!

I have read the book at least 5 times each and I always find something new. They aren't like most books because you don't get tired of reading them just like Artemis Fowl, Half-moon, and The Supernaturalist. I agree with Mike you were the best man for the job.

Thomas

They couldn't have chosen a better author to pick up the Hitchiker's mantle. I can't wait to read volume six.

Oh. My. Gosh. There's going to be ANOTHER one?! I am so buying it... I got HG2G when I was 10. I saw a massive book in the shop, and thought 'Well, that'll give me something to read for a while'. I took it home, read the first one, and promptly had to stop, being unable to understand a single word of the second book. For the next 3 years, I managed to progressively work my way through, until, finally, I finished all of them. And boy was I glad I'd stuck with them. They must be the most unique set of books in the whole world.

I feel that the last on had a sense of... finality about it, but I think that if anyone can write a believable sixth book, Colfer can. I've read the Artemis Fowl books, and The Supernaturalist, and I must say that they are both awesome sets of books. They have the same sense of irony and punchy humor that so categorises all the HG2H books, so I think that it'll all be good. Good luck. May you know where you're towel is...
