Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex – The Bookwitch Review

A nice Artemis Fowl is not a pretty sight. But it’s what you get in Artemis Fowl and the Atlantis Complex. After so many books it goes without saying that Eoin Colfer has to try the new and the shocking, and ‘ruin’ Artemis for us…

CBI “Challenge and Change in Children’s Books” Dublin, 17/05/09

Challenge and Change in Children’s Books
in association with the National Gallery of Ireland

The CBI summer conference is the largest annual Irish event dedicated to books for children. This year, we will be taking time to understand the opportunities and the challenges facing the sector at this time of fast paced change and development.

The conference is open to everyone with an interest in children’s books: writers, illustrators, parents, teachers, booksellers, librarians, publishers and policy makers.

This year’s line-up features both established and newer voices in children’s books and it is sure to be full of stimulation, debate and celebration.

1.30-2.30 Eoin Colfer in conversation with Robert Dunbar

Following the success of previous in-conversation sessions, Robert Dunbar returns to the CBI conference, this time to interview acclaimed author Eoin Colfer. Benny and Omar, Artemis Fowl and Airman will all be up for discussion, along with Eoin’s many other fantastic creations – and there may be even be time for a few questions about his new Hitchhiker’s Guide title as well!

Eoin to appear at Eastercon, Bradford, April 09

Eoin Colfer will be appearing at Eastercon, the 60th British National Science Fiction Convention (10th to 13th April 09) at the Cedar Court Hotel, Mayo Avenue, Bradford on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th April 09 to talk to fans about his new book, the sixth novel in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series, And Another Thing, as well as participating elsewhere at the convention. 12th OCTOBER 2009 – 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY

As previously announced, Penguin is to publish And Another Thing, the 6th novel in the ever-more increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy trilogy, by international bestselling children’s writer, Eoin Colfer. Publication has been set for Monday 12th October 09, which is also the 30th anniversary of publication of the first book in the late Douglas Adams’ phenomenally successful series.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy started life as a radio series in 1978 and subsequently became five best-selling novels, the first being published in paperback by Pan Books on 12th October 1979. It was an instant hit, reaching number one in the bestseller charts two weeks after publication and went on to be translated into over 35 languages. By 2000 it had sold over 14 million copies worldwide. It was also remade as a Bafta-winning TV series, dramatized for the West End stage and made in to a film starring Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy, John Malkowich and many more.

Simultaneous global publication of And Another Thing by Eoin Colfer will take place on the 30th anniversary of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. So far rights have been sold to Hyperion in the US and to other prominent publishers in Germany, Italy, France, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

Alex Clarke, Editorial Director, Penguin UK, said ‘I have been talking to Eoin, who tells us he is busy working out just how it is he is going to bring back Arthur, Ford and Trillian from the dead. We are all hugely looking forward to the publishing event of 2009.’

Since the announcement that Eoin Colfer is to continue the Hitchhiker series Artemis Fowl and Hitchhiker fan forums have been buzzing with a mixture of eager anticipation and consternation. Troublerocks on eoincolfer.com says, ‘I love Hitchhiker’s. I’m glad Eoin is doing it. It’s nice to know a great author we know will continue the GttG books.’ Scratch on the Douglas Adams Continuum forum says, ‘Surely this can’t be? Sounds ghastly . . . This whole affair makes me feel like my underpants are made out of wood’ while Duke of Dunstable says, ‘I suppose I am appalledly interested.’

Artemis Fowl : The Time Paradox (A Fan’s Review)

Charlie from Bramhall was kind enough to send us his review of The Time Paradox. As the book has not yet been released in the UK and Ireland we’ve just edited a little bit to make sure there are no spoilers – it makes for more fun reading this way!!! : )

For those who have already read the book you can try and work out the missing words marked ***********

Hello,
My name is Charlie.

I am part of a book reviewers group based in Bramhall, UK who gets to to read proofs of books.
When the Time Paradox arrived, i was ecstatic! the next book in a wonderful series, for me to read now!

i immediately started reading it and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has great twists and really mislead you when ******************. The book easily captured my attention and as i read further it got more and more interesting. At the end in the *********must have been my favourite part though, *********** having tricked ****** with… ***************! That was a very clever and unforeseen trick.

I also liked your use of ************* and current ***************. Your use of the ********************** was very interesting as that could soon become a reality.
the book ended well but even so i was wanting more. Will you write more? It would be a travesty if you didnt! :-)

I am sorry to say that the time Paradox has just about managed to knock Airman off my the spot of favourite book. It seems with every new release your writing gets better and better.

Please keep writing and keep doing tours.
I have attached a picture of me with the book and my Desktop background i made for my computer!

Thank you so much for being the greatest Children’s Author ever!

Thanks again,

Charlie
