EOIN COLFER LIVE! TOURING THROUGHOUT THE UK AUGUST 2008

Following a sold out West End run in Autumn 2006 and to mark the publication of the new title in the series: ARTEMIS FOWL AND THE TIME PARADOX; the celebrated author and stand-up performer EOIN COLFER is taking his live show on tour throughout the UK in August 2008.

“A brilliantly surreal family narrative full of farting, gentle mockery and subversiveness.” (The Times)

Recipient of a Herald Angel Award for Performance at the 2004 Edinburgh Fringe (the first author to win such an award) Eoin Colfer gives audiences a hilarious insight into the inspiration for the teenage criminal mastermind ARTEMIS FOWL: “The ex-teacher’s lesson is the frothy tale of his childhood and his mischievous siblings, illustrated by beautifully evocative photographs . . . our amiable, pixie-like host is never dull.” (Evening Standard, Four Stars). The tour will also give Artemis’ legion of fans an opportunity to meet the author and have their newly published copies of ARTEMIS FOWL AND THE TIME PARADOX personally signed.

Acclaim for the Artemis Fowl series: ‘It reads like the fastest, punchiest comic strip you’ve ever come across’ Daily Telegraph

About Eoin Colfer:

EOIN (pronounced ‘Owen’) COLFER was a primary school teacher in Wexford, Ireland up until he secured the largest ever advance for a children’s novel by an unknown author in October 2000. He cast a spell on the publishing and film industries with his fantastically original novel, Artemis Fowl, and hasn’t looked back since. Miramax and Tribeca productions teamed up for a film option before the book had even been auctioned at the Frankfurt Book Fair. in a deal reportedly worth an unspecified six figures with a seven figure purchase price. The film is now slated to go into production next year.

Colfer, who is 43, lives in Wexford, a seaside town in the south-east of Ireland, with his wife Jackie and their sons Finn and Sean. His first novel, Benny and Omar was an instant bestseller in Ireland and even knocked Harry Potter off the number-one slot for bestselling children’s books. Like Artemis Fowl, it was written after a day’s teaching and after his young son’s bedtime.

Total UK sales of Eoin’s Artemis Fowl titles now exceed a staggering 2.8million copies in the UK and Ireland and over 7 million worldwide. His work is published in 41 countries. He has achieved huge international critical acclaim in the media and the book trade.

Artemis Fowl won the WHSmith ‘People’s Choice’ Children’s Book of the Year Award 2002, The Children’s Book of the Year at the British Book Awards and was shortlisted for both the Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year 2001 and The Blue Peter Book Award 2002. Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident was shortlisted for the Red House Children’s Book Award 2002.

    Dear Mr. Colfer,

My daughter and her friend are “severely” addicted to your Artemis Fowl books. They have read the series and discussed them at length. I often find “secret” messages posted on the wall. I have no idea what they say or who they are for. Do I need to worry about unusual visitors? Recently, my daughter read The Supernaturalist - she read it before nightfall on the day of purchase - and has been “slightly raging” ever since. Sir, I don’t mean to be rude - but I am not certain if I should be pleased with this craziness or worried and completely ban your books from our home. (just kidding)

    Dear Mr. Eoin Colfer,
I really hope you will consider a tour of the United States. I really love your books, especially your ideas about sciene of the future. I love Physics and so I really enjoyed reading about your ideas on the relations between space and time travel combined with the idea of magic as a form of energy. I cannot wait to see what you have written about in the Time Paradox!
(The New England area is pretty nice you know . . . )

    Dear Eoin Colfer,
I absoluotly LOVE the Artemis fowl books. I think the whole idea of fairies living underground and a teenage genius is really cool. My favourite one is The Opal Deception and loved it so I’m here to ask if you will write a new Artemis Fowl book? Plllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Mr. Colfer
I am a reader of your books, and they are ones of my favorite. Artemis Fowl series, The Wish List, The Supernaturalist, Benny and Omar, Half Moon Investigations, etc. are all of my favorite. I prefer the Artemis Fowl series than the Harry Porter series of Rowling because Artemis Fowl “draw a line of what magic can and can not do”, which make your books being really realistic ^_^ and being realistic doesn’t mean they are not enjoyable. Infact, most of your books are full with creativity, imagination, and comedy (in an acceptable way, I mean ^_^). But for Artemis Fowl series, I’m waiting for some romances (which it barely has in the first four books)in the sixth one.
I am looking forward to July (_ _”)

    Dear Mr. Colfer
A friend of mine first got me interested in your books a few years back, and i am pleased to say that i am still enthralled in the cunning tales of Artemis Fowl. Recently i have been acquiring your otehr books, including airman which i finished just this afternoon. I am pleased to report that it is another accomplishment on your part, as the story had me completely wrapped up in it.

I do have one disappointed fact to add though, i just recently found out about your tour, and when i looked at the dates there was nothing, i repeat NOTHING for anything anywhere in Ireland. Needless to say i almost cried when i found out it was all in England. Please, please, please do not forget you have everyone over here loving your books!!! I would hope that the next tour would do will not leave over here out as i’m afraid i would be one of the first purchasing a ticket and willfully sitting in the front row eager to hear more about you and your adventures.

ALSO, Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox isn’t coming out over here until August. I literally fell off my chair when i got the flyer in with Airman!! I have recently been praying that there would be more to come, as i just re-read the series over again for i dont know what time.

Job well done Mr. Colfer (thumbs up) ^^

  12. 12 Peter R.

I recently discovered the release of the sixth book. I nearl fell out of my chair when I heard, then immediately hammered on my sister’s door and yelled at her to come and see your website. We both can’t wait! Added to my dates to remember: July- Artemis Fowl, October- Inkdeath. Heard about your tour. You should do one in the US, everone loves your books here. coughCaliforniacough :)

  13. 13 Jessica

    Dear Mr. Colfer,
I first fell in love with your books when we had to read it as an English text in year 7 (6 years ago now) and now I buy all of your books as they are awesome!!!
I nearly fainted when I read this blog and saw the mention of a 6th Artemis Fowl book. I hoped you wouldn’t end it so soon and I was convinced their wasn’t going to be another since you ended it with The End.
Also I don’t like your newer covers of the books. I like the classic ones with the coded language on the covers.
I have finally worked out the Eternity Code written on the bottom of the pages and I also have deciphered the gnomish and centaurian.
Please come and do a tour of Australia when you have time.

Bye and thank you for the awesome novels and books you write.

  14. 14 Tierney G.

    Dear Mr. Colfer

You do know that a tour through the United States is a must right? Perhaps next spring? It would definitely have to be before it gets too hot in Las Vegas, although it’s quite pleasant in Flagstaff that time of year :P. As always, looking forward to new works. Thank you!

Hello. I´m writing from Argentina.Wow! You are amazing!!! I simply adore the Artemis Fowl series,I first got my hands on one of your books when I was in fourth grade, that´s de about 4 years ago… I was amazed on the way you travel though the story and manage not to leave any loose ends, which happens many times. I´ve read Artemis Fowl, Artemis Fowl: and the Arctic Incident,The Eternity Code and The Opal Deception. It´s unbeleivable the way the characters travel so smoothly throught the story, you can actually place yourself in their place and feel what they feel, think what they think. It´s something that is really hard to do… and I admire you for that. Thank you for being there and showing me how an excellent author writes.

  23. 23 Luna

Hi!I’m Luna.I first started reading youre books when i got the lost colony for birthday present and first i was thinking: Maybe i wait until i have read the other Artemis Fowl books….But i coulden’t wait so i read it out before i had even finished the first ^^.I really really REALLY are crazy aboute them,Can bearly wait until the time paradox!!!!!!And i too LOVED the wish list.I’m planning to read the supernaturalist. When i decided to read the wishlist i thought “It can’t beat Artemis Fowl”.
But i was proved to be wrong, it was one of the best books i ever read in my life! You are the best author ever!!!

as they say, both J.R.R and J.K can just go to bed!!! i love the way you show how the characters think based on their mind, and not only blabber away. up in Norway, i have never heard of anyone that has read about you stock you lower than the above mentioned authors.
(might be a bit much, but i hope you could take your time up to Norway [i look forward to the continued legacy)

  29. 29 E Cowan

I am 22 years old this year. Most would not expect me to be interested in the Artemis Fowl books, but most people would be wrong. I do not usually read certain authors, but Eoin Colfer is a favorite of mine and I really look up to him. A good story does not only need a good plot, it needs to be well written and Mr. Colfer has mastered this skill. I only wish I could meet him personally, but sadly his tour will not be coming to my state. Seriously, i know Geirgia sucks, but you have fans here too. :-)

  30. 30 Steph B from Australia.

    Mr. Eoin Colfer,

I love your Artemis Fowl series. I know the Gnommish alphabet off by heart and write messages in Gnommish all the time. I have read the first book nine times, and now reading it for the tenth. I have read all of the Artemis Fowl series at least fourty times put together.

I loved your Air Man book which I got for my birthday this year and I read that really really quickly. I enjoyed it so much.

I can’t wait for THE TIME PARADOX to come out. I’ve been waiting for it since the Lost Colony for this book.

    Keep writing please!

  31. 31 Aislinn F

    Eoin Colfer,

I started reading Artemis Fowl from my school library and thought they were brilliant. The library only had the first two, so I went out and bought the rest. I am seriously obssessed now!! Im from Dublin, and my friends love them too. The books are really well written and everything. I’m going to get the Time Paradox now as I’ve just finished the Lost Colony. I can’t wait! (haha I probably sound like a loser) I also love the Supernaturalist. Its great.

    Keep Writing,

    Aislinn.

  32. 32 fern

Mr. Eoin Colfer, I am happy to say that i love your artemis fowls sieres. I have read them all and all of you other books to. There is one thing that has been nagging at my brain scince i read the first artemis fowl book though. What happened at the Hamburg incedent?!?You`ve kept it a secret for the whole sieres. Will you tell about it in The Time Paradox? are you going to make a short story about it and post it on one of the artemis fowl sites or on your own site? Please reply because i dont know if i can live with the mystery.

  33. 33 Meg Garner

    Eoin Colfer,

Hi, I am from the Untied States and my family is visiting Ireland once again in December. We will be in Dublin on New Years Day. I am a big fan of the Artemis Fowl series and so are my follow travelers. I was wondering if there are any cool places you have to see in Dublin, that are located near the Dylan hotel. I adore Artemis Fowl, and it is one of the best series of books I have ever read.

    Thank You,

    Meg.

  34. 34 E.M.

    Dear Mr. Colfer:

I started reading the Artemis Fowl books back in ‘02 when I started third grade, when “The Arctic Incident” came out. I’m going into high school now, and I’m extremely happy that the sixth book is out now, and extremely happy for your success. Please, if you have a choice, plan a U.S. tour(and if you stop by Florida, that would be very cool)!

    Huge Arty Fan,

    E.M.

  35. 35 Kayleigh

I would just like to say, you are my favorite author and your books are phenomenal!! I have The Supernaturalists and all the Artemis Fowl books (except The Time Paradox). At the end of Arctic Incident I was soooooo sad because I thought that was the end, but now I’m psyched there’s a new one! I was going to buy it, but there is a possibility my dad bought it for me. He is going to give a book to me when we go camping but all he will say is that it’s blue and has no pictures. If it’s not The Time Paradox I hope Chapters isn’t sold out (witch is a distinct possibility owing to how good your previous books were) because I will get advances on my allowance if I have to, or get my parents to buy it for me. THANK YOU FOR WRITING ARTEMIS FOWL!!!!!!!

  36. 36 Mel Simon

Hi! I just wanted to say that your books are a huge hit here in Canada (in case you didn’t know). Feel free to visit at any time!
    -Mel Simon, Toronto

  37. 37 Kristi Slattery

    Dear Mr. Colfer,
I am a avid fan and was counting the days until the 6th Artemis Fowl book/audio was released. My four children and I have repeatedly listened to the audio books. Nat Parker made the characters come to life. My disappointment on hearing someone else try (and fail) to narrate Artemis, Holly, Mulch and Butler leaves a bitter note in my ears. Please redo the audio again with Mr. Parker!!Bring back the characters of these excelent books.
    Huge disappointed fans
    Kristi and family

  38. 38 Aidan Mohan

    Hey Eoin,

I am a big fan of yours. I lived in Dundalk, Co.Louth until I was seven, but I have been living on Long Island, New York for the last three years. I love your books. I have read them all. I particularly like how you take fairytales and turn them into Sci-fi fantasies. I enjoy the character; Mulch, I think he brings good comic relief to your books. So please don’t kill him off!!
I also like another Irish author called Derek Landy. You ever read any of his stuff?
Just wondering, your book tour ever stopping in New York?

    Let me know.

    Good Luck,

    Aidan Mohan

Your books are amazing. I am also a Harry Potter freak and I can’t tell
whose books I like better. I just finished reading The Lost Colony and I was in shock. I can’t wait for The Time Paradox and I will be the first one to buy it. Good luck with your tour!

    Hello,
I am a avid fan of Artemis Fowl. I loved the Time Paradox, but why didn’t Nathaniel Parker narrate??? He’s the best!! The characters come alive when he speaks.PLEASE do the book again with him narrating I’ll buy it again!!

  42. 42 Darlene Gonzalez

Just want you to be aware of how HIDEOUSLY disappointing it is to have a narrator other than Nathaniel Parker on the audio version. Doesn’t your new reader realize that Artemis is IRISH and therefore needs to speak with an Irish accent?!

What a letdown, after waiting so long for the new installment. I teach 7-8 grade, and am probably one of your most prolific marketers with my students, and it was hard to whip up ANY enthusiasm about this new book.

Why not Nathaniel? He is the epitome of the spoken Artemis Fowl stories.

    To Eoin (pronounced Owen) =)

I remember when i first got into your Artemis Fowl Books- I read them a totally different order [3,1,4,5,2]=P

Before “Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox” Book came out I re-read them and they were just as inspirational and mind blowing as the first time.

I was wondering whether the movie will come out in Australia soon. And do you have any other Artemis Fowl Books planned or any other books =D

Always looking out for the LEP while keeping my nose in one of your books =)

    Egregio Eoin Colfer,
sono italiano e non parlo molto bene l’inglese… spero che capisca quello che dico. Sono un suo grande ammiratore ed, essendo Alf Moon un libro molto bello, pensavo che sarebbe interessante un seguito… spero che legga questo post..

    Con affetto

    Dear mr. Colfer,
I just want to say that your books “Artemis Fowl” are great for all ages. I’m from Russia, Moscow and thnx God your books are translated into my native language or my Dad wouldn’t be able to read them as me.(I enjoy reading in original though my English is not great.) Unfortunately, here in Russia we almost don’t get any news about your further books, interviews and information about the film. Nevertheless, I try not to miss smth interesting on this site.
Thank you very much mr. Colfer for writing such fascinating books.
