The plot: "In the 1890s, Conor Broekhart is a boy living on the Saltee Islands off the Irish coast, where his father works as the king's bodyguard. But his happy, carefree life is changed forever when he finds out that the power-hungry Marshall Hugo Bonvilian is organizing a military coup to overthrow the king. When Conor is unable to stop Bonvilian, the king is murdered, and Conor is falesly accused of the crime and thrown into prison. In prison, the boy passes the solitary months by scratching designs for flying machines onto the walls. After two years, Conor is finally able to build a glider, and executes a daring escape to the mainland." The cover:
I managed to get hold of a copy of this book a little while ago, and it's really good. The plot is captivating and extremely creative, the characters are awesome and Colfer just really manages to capture the essence of what he set out to create.

Is there actually factual history involved in it? I'm sure it's still great if there isn't, but it sounds like some of the characters and events might've been real.

It sounds very interesting, I can't wait to read it! Hopefully, when it comes out, there will be more threads in this forum.

it sounds like one of those mythology things that they built a wing out of bird feathers and wax. The father lived to be free but his son didn't.
The son was a knuckehead and got too close to the sun that the wax melted.

I love the fact that it now says 'from the MEGA SELLING..' i still have the old school 'international best seller' copies of the book. It doesn't realy appeal to me this book. i mean, the cover doesn't even look shiny.

Oh, the cover's shiny. It's incredibly cool. And you're not going to buy it... BASED ON THE COVER?! What's wrong with you?

It comes out in September 08 in America, or sometime in the fall, right? I'm sorry, I don't know about Asia though. Do they have to translate it? If they do it should take longer, otherwise it shouldn't be much longer than its release in America, or maybe even before it. By the way, I like the cover of the book.

They SOMETIMES translate it... which would take time. So they just sell the UK ed. and the US. Either way, we all get the same thing. ^^

That would be in... well, America at least. It might release the same date in Europe too. It comes out in September 08 in America, or sometime in the fall, right? Either way, we all get the same thing. ^^ It actually comes out in January 2008, not September (that'd be such a wait!). I think they may have to translate it, but it should be available in English. Though, maybe not a lot of people know English, and they want to translate it into the local language? I don't know. If you want it when it comes out, your best bet is eBay or Amazon.

It's practically in my hands right now. I can't wait for January to roll around! Airman sounds fantastic! With trailers like those, how could I not buy it? It really does sound 'epic'.

It really is epic... the only way I can really describe it that way is... have you seen The Mask of Zorro? It kind of reminds me of that... lots of really fast-paced sword fights and action scenes, I love the training parts as well, where Conor's training. It's brilliant.

Specifically, early, early, January. The internet has no point, does it?
