What do you guys think of Airman? Like what do you expect? Similar and leveled with Supernaturalist? Better than Artemis?
I reckon it'll be good, but not as much as Artemis of course. He was Colfer's grand masterpiece. Though this one would no doubt be really good. I get the feeling it'll be better than all his other books other than AF.

what is it actually about? if we know the basic genre and a few details about it we ca compare it with other books like it, not just Colfer one We actually have quite some information about it - check the main website for two promos, and here's a brief description: Conor Broekhart was born to fly. In fact, legend has it that he was born flying in a hot air balloon at the world's fair.
In the 1890's Conor and his family live on the sovereign Saltee Islands, off the Irish coast. Conor spends his days studying the science of flight with his tutor and exploring the castle with the king's daughter, Princess Isabella.
But the boy's idyllic life changes forever the day he discovers a conspiracy to overthrow the king. When Conor tries to expose the plot, he is branded a traitor and thrown into jail on the prison island of Little Saltee. There, he has to fight for his life as he and the other prisoners are forced to mine for diamonds in inhumane conditions.
There is only one way to escape Little Saltee, and that is to fly. So he passes the solitary months by scratching drawings of flying machines into the prison walls. The months turn into years, but eventually the day comes when Conor must find the courage to trust his revolutionary designs and take to the skies.

I'm thinking Supernaturalist or HMI. Not Wish List I bet. But I doubt AF thick either. Or perhaps like the first one but definitely on TLC. Or maybe, who knows?

I read it about a month ago, I'm re-reading it now. It's about 600 pages long if memory serves, it's at least double the first Artemis book. The plot is very intense, and it's a brilliant story. I enjoyed it as much as Artemis, as it seems to be aimed at a slightly older audience. As he said in our 2007 AFC Interview: M: With your upcoming book, Airman, it is aimed at a slightly older audience... what made you want to go for that?
EC: Well, I just wanted to write that sort of story. I wanted it to be fairly scary, and obviously there is some violence in this book. I thought it might not be suited for younger people, but you couldn't write a book like this, with revolution and regicide without anyone killing anyone. If you did that, it would really... de-fang the whole book. You can't imagine Robin Hood where no one gets shot with an arrow. It's not the same, so I thought it might be better aimed at older kids. It's a fantastic read, I'll ask Eoin if I can put the few opening paragraphs up closer to the time.

I think it looks really good! I want to read it really badly, especially after reading what Matt said about it. Is he a close friend of Eoin?
